After my paper today, a friend tapped me on my shoulder and we started talking cos I haven't seen him the entire semester.
We engaged in quite a lengthy small talk and he divulged his grad trip plans to me. i was like "wow"ed and blown over by the beauty of what he had described to me.
he was planning to go to Norway, apparently the sun doesn't set till midnight.
Obviously I had to google for it,
"Northern Norway, nicknamed the Land of the Midnight Sun, lies above the Arctic Circle--an imaginary line located at 66 degrees 30 minutes north latitude.
There, the sun's rays never shine directly on Earth's surface. The sun never sets on the longest day of the year, around June 21, and never rises on the shortest day of the year, around December 21.
"In summer, the sun goes down at midnight," Erik said. "It's not so bad, except when [I'm] trying to sleep." Although Norway is close to the Arctic Circle, its climate is much milder than that of most other regions that far north, especially along the country's west coast. The warm North Atlantic current known as the Gulf Stream, warm ocean current of the N Atlantic Ocean, off E North America. It was first described (1513) by Spanish explorer Ponce de León.
The Gulf Stream originates in the Gulf of Mexico and, as the Florida Current, passes through the Straits of Florida and along the coast of SE United States with a breadth of c.50 mi (80 km)...... "
n he says he wishes to see the lake where its all glacier in between lush greeen valleys.
I've learnt that Norway is almost like a perfect little paradise. They have the best of both worlds--imagine artic snow and greenery co-existing together, and because they are rich in natural resources- they are one of the wealthiest countries in the world by means of a booming fish and oil industry, the crime rate is low, poverty is minimal, Nordic/scandinavian music is also surprisingly urban and pleasant to the ears , even tertiary students receive an allowance from the government in uni.
wow right?god must really love them more. it's gonna be one of my must-visit places of the world before i die
okay radio dept is like swedish hehe but they're near enough n me loveeee!
